I am a newbie to the pottery world, live in rural WV and am looking for =
a good source of clay and glaze materials. The last time I ordered =
materials, it ended up costing me a ton in shipping and handling. (I =
ordered from New Mexico Clay Co!) I in the southeast part of West =
Virginia. =20

Thanks for any advice!

Hi Reagan,=20
Robert Klander here...In Princeton, WV...Where are you exactly? =
Lewisburg?

There are several of us potters in the area...Depending on how much clay =
you
are needing, Laguna Clay has the best shipping rate to this area...Some =
of
us buy from Highwater Clays in Asheville, but the shipping is quite a =
bit
higher...You may be able to get in with another potter making an order =
to
cut down on the shipping, if you were to use Laguna...

Anyway, if you are interested, there is a master potter, Gary Roper, who
teaches a class on Thursday evenings in Lewisburg at the Carnegie
Hall...Each 6 week session is about $147, I think...He gives great
demonstrations, both wheel work and hand building. There are 7 wheels, =
and
two kilns. We mix our own glazes...

The next class starts on March 4th, at 6:30 in the pottery studio there =
at
the Carnegie...Let me know if you are interested, or just call the =
Carnegie
to sign up...The class is pretty small at the moment, so there is plenty
room to add another student...

If ever you go to the Frederick MD area, there is another Clayart member =
who
has a store there, Rob van Rehns...His prices are somewhat better than
Campbell's in Richmond, VA...And if you happen to be in the area, it =
makes
sense to drop by, buy some clay and bring it home with you...Provided =
your
vehicle has the capacity...

Happy potting!

Robert

Reagan,

Standard Ceramic Supplies is located in Pittsburgh - Pretty close to
Morgantown, West Virginia, but probably still a haul for you to drive
yourself...Shipping might be better than from New Mexico though! They're
great to work with - If you drive there yourself with a pick up or
something, they would be able to shrink wrap your clay and fork lift it
into your truck for you. Just an idea.
