Hello!

I have a friend who is moving to Phoenix, AZ very soon. He is a potter and
would like to find a place to continue taking pottery classes and to find a
community of potters.

Please send me any information.

Thank you for all your help!

Best,
Caroline Niebres

Hello,

There's only one place worth checking out. The Mesa Arts Center. They have the best program in the southwest and are in the process of building a $90 million new center with 3 theaters, new gallery and new visual arts building. I used to work there and there are people who have been taking classes for 20 years. They have woodfiring, pitfiring, raku. electric, gas and salt or soda firing. It's a wonderful place.

Hello Caroline,

Arizona Clay Association is located in Phoenix and their address the last I
knew was P. O. Box 56468, Phoenix, AZ 85079-6468. At that time the following
clay artists were active in the association: Michelle Lowe -
mishlowe@indirect.com; Antra Watley Allen - UACU46C@prodigy.com; Richard Keeney -
AzPotter@aol.com. You can also contact the Clay Department at Mesa Community College in
Mesa, AZ. Also take a look at the website http://www.art.sdsu.edu/ceramicsweb/.
There is also a Mesa Arts Center located at 155 N. Center, Mesa, AZ. The
above information is about 4 years old so some or all may have gone away. You
can contact Marjon Ceramics; PH: 602-272-6586. They are the largest ceramics
supply house in the greater Phoenix area. Note: the area code of 602 may have
changed.

I found the Arizona Clay folks very welcoming and there is lots going on.

Best of Luck to your friend.

Earl,

Not everyone is as computer savvy as others of us. For some people, email
is a difficult enough task to manage, let alone figure out what Google is.
Sorry to react to your comment like this, but I've trained many people on
using computers, and sometimes it is a lot like pulling teeth, but if
you're patient, they get there.

I work with people every day that have little to no computer experience and
are reluctant to try. It's my day job. I'm dragging some of them kicking
and screaming into computer use at school. I understand what you are
saying. But MOST browsers offer some kind of search engine, it doesn't have
to be Google. And that website is awesome, I can't imagine it not showing up
on most searches.

This comes up all the time around here, people ask questions instead of
looking in the archives, people asking others to do for them what they can
do, often with just a little effort, themselves. You are right, I do not
know this person's computer skill level, and it's nice of you to assume the
best. At the time I didn't feel like it. The general assumption here is
that if you can do clayart, you have certain skills, without prefacing your
message to the contrary, it should be a fair assumption.
