Hi all,

I am back to Clayart after a long hiatus. (I never had the heart to unsub,
I would just delete the messages!) Here is my query....

A long time ago I posted that I had a literal ton of A.P. Green silica
cement. I had one taker, she and Cindy came to my house to pick it up on
their way home from the Kansas City NCECA. She was going to try and make a
castable kiln. I can't find her name and would love to know how it turned
out.

Warmly,

Hello, Nicole

I'm Cindy, who came with Pat to pick up your cement. I've since moved
and no longer live in the same town as Pat, and I can't remember her
last name. I don't know if she ever used the cement--we were pretty much
just riding together and never saw each other much, either before or
after NCECA. She was (and I assume still is) teaching art at Custer High
School. Next time I'm in Custer, I'll ask around and see if I can get
her last name. My daughter and I go there every Thursday for her music
lessons and for karate. I'm sure someone will be able to tell me, as
it's a very small town. I'll get back to you on it. :)

Here I am!!

I am the person who came to your house and picked up 18 bags of silica
cement! Its me! It tickled me to see a message for ME on Clayart! I
am a lurker :). Anyway, yes, I came home with 18 100 lb. bags of this
stuff and did several tests- I made a mix with 1 pt. silica cement, 1
pt. sawdust, 1 pt. grog, and 2 pts. Fireclay... and several variations
thereof. And fired bricks of these, - the best mix seems to be the one
listed- I fired the bricks over and over and no deterioration- so last
summer we started on a castable kiln. It's a 36 sq.ft catenary arch-
sawdust injection- we are not finished yet- it got cold on us last fall,
and we didn't finish, so hopefully this year we will finish, when it
warms up. When it finally gets done, I will let you know- and hopefully
post some pics of the first pots! :)

Have a great day!
In cloudy SD
Pat
