Re: Looking for a fellow potter...can you please help

Hello Lorraine,

What I have found for Melvin Kauila Clark shows him without a terminal
"e" to his surname. Here are a few websites that mention him:

Clark gave a lecture and demo at Chadron State College (NB) in 2004:
http://www2.csc.edu/eagleonline/default.php?date=1097128800
"Clark teaches ceramics at the Chozen-Ji International Zen Dojo temple
in Hawaii." (Photo of "Mel Kauila Clark")

Clark is mentioned several times here:
http://the.honoluluadvertiser.com/article/2004/Jun/13/il/il02a.html
"Kauila Clark, a shihan or high-ranking layperson in the dojo and a
teacher of Native Hawaiian values who is a master potter, often uses
the hard-stoking wood-burning kiln." (at the Daihonzan Chozen-ji
International Zen Dojo in Honolulu)

This link gives the Chozen-Ji International Zen Dojo temple's snail
mail address, telephone and fax numbers:

Daihonzan Chozenji
International Zen Dojo

Tel: (808) 845-8129, Fax: 841-5977

(Note: There is no e-mail address or website for this temple. )

Clark came to Graceland for the dedication of the new Helene Center for
the Visual Arts, Graceland University in Lamoni, Iowa in 2004:

> Formal dedication of The Helene Center will take place Sunday,
> October 3, (2004) during Homecoming Weekend. A dedication service
> in The Shaw Center for the Performing Arts will honor the spiritual
> and cultural significance of art. Professional artist, author and
> lifelong educator, Dr. R. Dale Guthrie ’56, will be the featured
> speaker. A pre-dedication reception will be held in the atrium of
> The Helene Center – tours of the new building will be provided.
> Guthrie and internationally-known artist Kauila Mel Clark ’68 will
> lecture and provide demonstrations, and Gail Jones ’78 Sundell will
> demonsrate stone carving, as part of Alumni College events. A new
> visual arts building has been a dream at Graceland for many years.
> The dream became real in 2001

It's a start, anyway...
