advice on japan travel for a potter/ceramics teacher

I teach advanced ceramics at a high school with a very strong program in
hand built ceramics. I am traveling to Japan for about 10 days this summer
and would like some advice on pottery villages worth visiting. My interest
is more in hand built ceramics. I am also interested in finding out about
Japanese brush painting and the possibility of doing a workshop in it, wher=
e
I could learn some simple techniques.

Are there galleries of contemporary potters work? Are the villages and kil=
n
sites easily accessible to tourists? Where would one shop for affordable
pottery? Do you know of any villages known for their porcelain?

Do you have a recommendation for a travel agent who may have some knowledge
about the above?

I appreciate any advice and guidance I can get.

Thanks.

Hello N.G.

I am also planning a visit to Japan this year, with a week=B4s work in =
Arita - a city very specialized in tradicional porcelain technics. It is =
in the South of Japan.

Maybe the travel agency we are dealing with is able to indicate you some =
other in USA .

I think you may try this adress
www.mundus.com.br
and send them some inquiries in an e-mail.

You know how small the world is nowadays!

If you go to this site, there is a pretty good guide about Japanese
pottery:

http://www.e-yakimono.net/guide/

There are many places that specialize in porcelain. These are
listed at the above site:

Porcelain
- Arita
- Hakuji
- Hizen
- Imari
- Iro-e Jiki
- Kakiemon
- Kinrande
- Koto-yaki
- Kutani
- Ko Kutani
- Nabeshima
- Seihakuji
- Sometsuke

Inexpensive pottery can be found just about anywhere.
Mashiko is full or inexpensive work, of varying quality.
