looking for durable cone 6 base glazes

This semester the college that I attend has shut down the Gas firings until
they get a better ventilation system figured out because of an issue with
carbon dioxide levels in the Kiln room. So, I'm looking for any stable cone
6 base glazes that anyone may have a recipe for that we can begin doing some
testing with coloring oxides. I have the recipes from MC6. If anyone has
any bases that they have been using that have done well for them I would be
thankful for any recipes. Also, any good recipes for a cone 6 body that is
tight and has low absorbtion?

I have been doing some testing with the Cream Rust glaze from the White Tin
thread and I was wondering if this is a very stable base. It looks to me to
be low in Silica. I was doing some tests with added amounts of EPK to raise
the alumina and silica levels. Does anyone use this glaze for functional
ware that has any input on it's durability or a possible revised recipe.

Thanks.

Vaughn.

Moved back into my apartment, watered the window boxes and picked some
peppers. It's good to be back in Millersville!

Vaughn, you should get hold of the book Mastering cone 6 glazes. =
Especially
being in a university setting this book teaches a lot about glazes,
stability, testing, firing and slow cooling to get some very nice, stable
results at cone six electric. It is not a long read but is packed full of
information you need to know to get the most from these and leading to =
other
recipies. It is self published by 2 clayarters Ron Roy and John =
Hesselberth
but available at many clay supply stores as well as Johns website
http://www.frogpondpottery.com/.
