Back in the 70's I was part of a study over at the U.C. Medical Center
in San Francisco, Calif. They were studying the difference in brain
waves between lawyers who use " words " to do their jobs and
potters/sculptors who work three dimensionally. Left brain right brain.
They tracked eye movement when asked questions, did a mirror image
test, using the left hand and right hand. Then I got to experience
"Alfa waves". They put us in a insulated room for this, but They had a
heck of a time blocking out the effects of PG&E the gas & electric co.
in these parts. It was a very relaxing feeling but I was able to hold it
for only a short period of time. I don't have the book " Drawing on
the Right Side of The Brain" but I think they deal with left brain
right brain functions. Mike Gordon

Mike and others,

I've been reading this thread with interest.
I have been struggling to regain my ability
to get back at the wheel due to a seizure disorder.

I was having some pretty dangerous seizures,
either right at the wheel, or soon after using it.

Meds have reduced the seizures some but
not totally. I'm determined not to give up
clay or the wheel despite the risks.

My daughter noticed that I was closing my left eye
the whole time I was throwing. I talked to the
Dr. about it and then the Occupational Therapist.
I've been working to control tremors in my R hand
by using wrist weights when I throw.

They recommended trying an eye patch on my L eye while
throwing.

I've been doing this since Nov. and haven't had a seizure
while
throwing at the wheel since then.

I don't know the neurological significance of this but I
wonder if
it has to do with that R brain L brain thing.

Only thing bad that happens is I sometimes scare the hell
outta
myself when I look up and see this wild haired Captain Hook
look-alike in the mirror.

Happy Holidays!
Kathy
